Aiming High for College - The College Application Process |
Main Points of Class• The college application is a tool to assess a student's character. • A student writes his application by what he does over the next three years. Freshman year matters. • Review a college application in detail and help students see what is being asked of them during the next four years (e.g., grades received during freshman year matter; character development also matters -- teacher and counselor evaluations are effectively an assessment of a student's character). Out-of-class work• Review college application and teacher evaluation forms; discuss with mentor areas for personal improvement. • Discuss and complete mentor worksheet. • Review class subjects he is taking; discuss with mentor choosing challenging courses for sophomore year; set academic goals (e.g. goal for his GPA).
